Course Overview

AutoCAD 3D Drawing and Modeling introduces the full range of 3D design tools in AutoCAD 2027, enabling you to transition from 2D drafting into three-dimensional solid and surface modeling. Students gain the skills to create, modify, and visualize 3D models and produce professional 3D drawings for engineering and design projects.

Course content is aligned with the IMAGINiT AutoCAD 3D Drawing and Modeling curriculum and covers navigating 3D space, creating solid models, working with mesh and surface tools, and producing rendered visualizations directly in AutoCAD.

Course Contents

  • Navigating AutoCAD in 3D — orbit tools, ViewCube, and visual styles
  • Creating and editing 3D solids: extrude, revolve, sweep, loft, and press/pull
  • Boolean operations: union, subtract, and intersect
  • Solid editing: fillet, chamfer, shell, and slice
  • 3D surface and mesh modeling tools
  • Modifying 3D objects: mirror, array, align, and 3D rotate
  • Creating sections and flat 2D drawings from 3D models
  • Working with 3D drawing views and projections
  • Applying and editing materials and textures in AutoCAD
  • Lighting setup and rendering using the AutoCAD render engine
  • Exporting 3D models to other Autodesk applications (Revit, 3DS Max)

What You Will Be Able to Do

  • Navigate and work confidently in AutoCAD 3D space
  • Create and edit complex 3D solid models from 2D geometry
  • Produce flat section and projection drawings from 3D models
  • Apply materials and lighting to produce rendered visualizations
  • Export models for use in Revit or 3DS Max for advanced visualization

Prerequisites

Completion of AutoCAD Basics and Intermediate (or AutoCAD Fundamentals), or equivalent 2D AutoCAD proficiency.
